They had multiple holes drilled so they could regulate the flow of water according to the season . in the winter when the natural water source is at the most output , they would unplug the corks or teak plugs to prevent the overflow . and in the spring and summer when the springs water supply from the melting snow becomes less , they would plug as many holes with wood corks as needed so the basin can retain enough water for the people to drink with the mug.
