or Directory style takes its name from the period 1795–1799 when France was
ruled by a government of Directors – the Directory. Directory style was not so
much an independent style in itself, but rather a transitionary style between
that of Louis XVI and the Consular and Empire styles.
was a period in the decorative arts, fashion, and especially
furniture design in France concurrent with the Directory the later part of the
French Revolution. The style uses Neoclassical architectural forms, minimal
carving, planar expanses of highly grained veneers .

Biedermeier has its roots in the late eighteenth century.
Some early works that date from the turn of that century anticipate the heyday
of the purest form of Biedermeier, around 1820.
The Biedermeier style was a simplified interpretation of the
influential French Empire style of Napoleon, which introduced the romance of
ancient Roman Empire styles, adapting these to modern early 19th century
households.

Jacaranda is native to South America including Brazil that
was once a Portuguese colony. You could see in the carving the transition
between the Renaissance-Baroque style morphing into the Portuguese rococo
elegance with the apparent curved lines, carved pilasters and the Twisting work
that was done. As you might be
familiar, this is typical of the period
of the late 17th Century to early 18th Century,
apparent and explicit on the bed frames we have in our collection.
During that period , the Portuguese colonial furniture had a
distinctive style featuring rare dark wood such as Jacaranda that was loved and
favored by the wood turners because they were able to mold it and turn it,
since it had the medium density in combination with the fine grain, and when
the wood dried out after production , it didn’t crack like the other type of
woods.
The Exotic wood jacaranda one of the most valued woods in
Brazil and explored since the colonial period, today I believe is listed by the
IBAMA “The Brazilian Institute of Environment and Renewable Natural Resources”
as an endangered species. Intricate work and elaborate carving of foliate
flowers and turning in Jacaranda was used in the making of luxury carpentry and
music instruments and in the Brazilian baroque furniture Which period spans
from the 16th to the 18th centuries. The Jacaranda's exotic nature made it a
symbol of the Portuguese monarchy and their colonial wealth.
It is easier to pinpoint the Period rather that the place of
inception of this glorious furniture. It
is not always possible to differentiate with certainty whether this type of
Antique furniture pieces were made in Portugal or in the colony (Brazil) but as a general rule, the greater the
quality indicates that the more likely it was manufactured in the colony, as
the superior carving skilled masters were developed there at earlier time than
the 18th Century when the craftsmanship moved to Europe, to England , Portugal
and France ..
If you would want to assume a later production than the late
17th to early 18th Century , As you know, you would be venturing into the
jacaranda of Anglophile taste in eighteenth century, that looked much different
than the furniture Portuguese colonial and took place from 1690 until 1780,
including the Chippendale furniture that was produced in the 18th Century in
1750-1780

Venice, Italian Venezia, city, major seaport, and capital of
both the provincia (province) of Venezia and the regione (region) of Veneto,
northern Italy. An island city, it was once the centre of a maritime republic.
It was the greatest seaport in late medieval Europe and the continent’s
commercial and cultural link with Asia. Venice is unique environmentally,
architecturally, and historically, and in its days as a republic the city was
styled la serenissima (“the most serene” or “sublime”). It remains a major
Italian port in the northern Adriatic Sea and is one of the world’s oldest
tourist and cultural centres.
Since the fall of the Venetian republic in 1797, the city
has held an unrivaled place in the Western imagination and has been endlessly
described in prose and verse. The luminous spectacle of ornate marbled and
frescoed palaces, bell towers, and domes reflected in the sparkling waters of
the lagoon under a blue Adriatic sky has been painted, photographed, and filmed
to such an extent that it is difficult to distinguish the real city from its
romantic representations. The visitor arriving in Venice is still transported
into another world, one whose atmosphere and beauty remain incomparable.
